Mark 01 — the primary
cnemaı

The name is cinema with one letter moved. The mark is that move: the i lifts out of second place, travels the word, and lands on the a — where the two of them spell ai. Its tittle never makes the landing. It comes off the word entirely and settles outside it, lit.

THE SLIP · 2.2s · PLAYS ONCE ON OPEN
The reveal

Nothing rearranges. The camera moves.

The ident. Six letters, one object, each set at its own depth. Seen from the left, parallax stacks them into cinema. The tittle can’t hold on — it pops off the i, drops, and on first contact it lights. The lamp wakes the camera: it swings to dead-on, the bounces die away as the ball is carried to its place, and the same six letters land as the flat wordmark — cnemaı and its dot, exactly.

One letter, one meaning

Every other anagram of these six letters is noise. This is the only arrangement that leaves cinema legible and still ends on ai — so the name argues the product’s case before anyone reads a word of copy.

The tittle is the tell. It doesn’t travel with its letter; it comes off the word and sits outside, in the violet this app already uses for now playing — the same trailing dot the Tiny Cinema wordmark carries, so the two read as siblings.

The Splice

Cut on the fourth frame and taped back together, the two halves a frame out of register. For titles and end cards, where the word can afford to show the join.

Mark 03

The Aperture

The c opened into an iris, the fallen tittle resting at its focus. The app icon and the avatar — the only lockup that survives 16px.

The Strip

Six letters, six frames — and only the last two exposed. Loading states and the launch animation, where the reel runs and the ai arrives lit.

At 16px the iris closes to a ring and a dot — still a lens. The wordmark stops being legible below 88px wide; under that, the aperture takes over.

Handling

  • 01Set lowercase, always. There is no capital form — an initial C breaks the read back to cinema.
  • 02The i is dotless (U+0131) and the tittle is drawn. Never type a plain i; the word would then have two dots and no idea.
  • 03The tittle stays outside the word, one dot-width clear, sitting on the baseline. It is the only violet in the mark.
  • 04Clear space on all four sides equals the x-height. Nothing sits inside it.
  • 05The slip plays once, on first open. It is an introduction, not a loading spinner.
  • 06Never letterspace the wordmark to fill a container. Use the strip when you need width.

Endorsement

Beside the studio, the two marks share the same trailing dot — one bone, one lit.
